Niches
Last year I find my inspiration in the special light that penetrates through the small windows of our medieval churches. Light that disperses into the inside and lodges in the niches where it comes to rest. For ages, they have been empty, because we are Calvinists. Since our “Talibanesque” aspiration for the purity of doctrine and life, we enjoy that splendid light. The light of Saenredam, it is still there. But, sometimes I cannot resist: drawing from my remaining religious and other cultural heritage, I fill the niches with personal idols.
I have not yet finished this project, it is in progress.
